Why use a notepad and pen when you can have them automatically recorded for you and even compared? The resource thread has a bunch of market tools that will scan through your own market exports and look for deals (like NavBot) or allow you to compare the bid/ask from 2 regions at a time (like Eve Market Scanner - http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=598006)
I usually use the market scanner myself because I find it rare that there are good deals to be had buying at the ask price in a region, transporting the goods to another region, and selling to the bid price. I usually trade items that also have a fairly high spread in them instead. With a little patience and some skills in handling market orders, you can pick up a bunch of items fairly cheap in one region that is in high demand in another, move them, and profit.
Here's one I used to trade. I don't trade it anymore because the market stabilized, which it will always do over time. But just as an example. I would put in a buy order for t1 sentry drones (Garde & Curator) in Everyshore, Genesis, Sinq Laison and Essence regions at around 25,000 isk, which was the highest in the area usually. It would take a few days for the orders to fill, but once they had I'd go gather them up and return them to Dodixie for sale, where I'd list them at 125,000 or so, which was the lowest in the region. Net profit, 100k per unit, with a volume of 15-20 units per day. Not huge income, but it also only required a couple of million in the bank at any one time. If I would have tried to just buy the drones in the other regions, transport them, and then sell them in Dodixie I would have been lucky to make 5,000 per unit.
You have to be willing to have some of your hard-earned ISK locked up in inventory in order to get the best deals. |
